Kathakali

The Toronto Kathakali School, founded in 2020 by Rajish Ramankutty, aims to showcase and preserve the essence of this esteemed art form - Kathakali. Rajish Ramankutty, a distinguished and versatile Kathakali guru, performer and choreographer, was born to Dr. Kalamandalam Ramankutty and Rajani Ramankutty on October 16th in Kerala, India. He has represented India at numerous International Dance Festivals worldwide, including in Italy, Greece, Libya, Russia, Canada, Thailand, and Colombia. Additionally, he is trained in various other dance forms, such as Bollywood, Hip-hop, and contemporary.   The Kalasagaram School of Arts was established in Toronto in 2017 by Smt. Kalakshetra Anjali Aravind, a renowned Bharatanatyam performer, educator, and choreographer. She graduated with honors from the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai. Kalasagaram School of Arts specializes in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam.   Toronto Kathakali School, in collaboration with the Kalasagaram School of Arts, proudly presents a showcase of diverse classical dance forms celebrating the vibrant essence of the Onam festival. This event highlights the rich cultural heritage and traditions that bring prosperity and joy to the people of Kerala. Onam, a harvest festival, is marked by grand feasts, intricate dances, and communal harmony. Through our performances, we aim to convey the beauty and significance of this cherished festival, reflecting the spirit of unity and abundance that it symbolizes
